Rural Pasture Change Projections

Rural Pasture Change Projections

Projected changes in seasonality of pasture growth in rural Manukau suggest a longer summer growth restriction, higher winter growth and shorter springs. This effect is stronger under higher emissions scenarios. On balance, median pasture biomass becomes slightly more abundant under climate change.

Notes

Currently Manukau has a very small amount of its economy based on the primary sector but that could change and the decreased spring and summer rainfall would limit grass and crop growth. That could be more significant if communities rely more on locally grown produce, a scenario predicted by some due to a reduction in energy availability for transport.
